Each year Members of Congress hold contests within their districts to choose winning pieces of art by high school students. Since this competition was created in 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated at the local level. The winning student from each district is invited to Washington, DC for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and will have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

PA GOP Helps Elect U.S. Senator-Elect Scott Brown

The PA GOP deployed a bus full of seasoned campaigners to Massachusetts to help bring U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown's message of fiscal responsibility and opposition to the Democrat's government-run health care plan to Massachusetts voters.

Our committed group of volunteers travelled the Bay State making phone calls and knocking on doors in support of U.S. Senator-elect Scott Brown.

We were so excited to be part of this historic victory and look forward to winning another U.S. Senate election in November in Pennsylvania. Click here to read Chairman Gleason's statement on this historic victory.

PA GOP Endorses Candidates

The Republican State Committee held their winter meeting in Harrisburg on Friday and Saturday of last week. Over the course of the weekend, State Committee members had the opportunity to meet and hear from all Republican candidates running for office.

On the business meeting on Saturday, there was a roll call vote on whether State Committee should endorse for the races of Governor, Lt. Governor and US Senator. Each state committee member (or their proxy) was asked to stand and register their vote.

The vote to endorse passed by wide margins. The vote then proceeded to the race for US Senate. Pat Toomey and Peg Luksik were both nominated from the floor. Pat Toomey won the endorsement vote with an overwhelming margin.

The vote then proceeded to the race for Governor. Attorney General Tom Corbett and State Representative Sam Rohrer were both nominated from the floor. Attorney General Corbett won the endorsement vote with an overwhelming margin.

The vote then proceeded to the race for Lt. Governor. The following individuals were nominated from the floor: Jim Cawley, Chet Beiler, Joe Watkins, Steve Johnson, Nick DeFrancesco and Craig Pepper.

In order for a candidate to be endorsed, he/she must receive a majority of the votes. On the first ballot the top 3 vote getters included: Jim Cawley, Chet Beiler and Joe Watkin. Nick DeFrancesco and Craig Pepper then withdrew from the race. Jim Cawley won on the 2nd ballot.

The process was open and transparent with each State Committee member voting via roll call.
